If you're moving somewhere in the same city or general area as your current home, you may feel that your transition will be a breeze. While local moving can be considerably less complex than a longer move, there are still a number of considerations you will want to have thought out well in advance of your move.
Self-Service Local Moving or Mover?
Since local moving requires a shorter distance to travel, it can be tempting to move yourself by renting a truck or van. This will usually be cheaper, but with all that will be going on the date of the move, you may prefer to hire a professional. If you have many delicate items that you are worried about and can get your belongings into a manageable number of not overly heavy boxes, you may want to give it a go yourself. If handling the moving duties is going to create undue anxiety, go ahead and find a mover that can handle your needs. Whether you're getting help or going it alone, an online search can find the mover or local moving van you need fast, giving you one less thing to worry about when you move.
Adjusting to Your New Location
Even local moving is still moving. While things may be similar, they won't be exactly the same. You'll want to scan the area to see where the services you need are currently located (grocery store, Laundromat if necessary, etc.). If it's a very short move, some of your regular locations may be in the same place, but you want to find out which ones are.
Local Moving Basics
Even if you're not moving far, you're still going to have to notify all your utilities and services to turn off at the old location and on at the new one. You'll also want to make sure to file a change of address form with the post office and inform people who mail you regularly where to send that mail. You should take care of these things as soon as you know your moving date, not the day of the move. Preparation makes local moving go much easier and more quickly so that you can go about the business of enjoying your new residence. |
